Microsoft releases source code for MS-DOS and Word for public
Initially on August 1980′s MS-DOS was renamed of 86-DOS which was written by Tim Paterson of Seattle Computer Products. In May 1981 Microsoft hired Paterson and bought 86-DOS for $75,000 in July, which was further renamed to MS-DOS. The First DOS version of word was released in 1983. In 1989, Word for Windows arrived, and within four years was generating over half the revenue of the worldwide word-processing market.
As this was quite a long time, and keeping these source code is really appreciated. Microsoft Research managing director Roy Levin had said-“Thanks to the Computer History Museum, these important pieces of source code will be preserved and made available to the community for historical and technical scholarship,”.
